Why Bullet-Resistant, Not Bulletproof?
Although many people use the term bulletproof loosely, when it comes to ballistics, nothing is impenetrable. This is because there will always be a gun or other type of weapon that can eventually break down any type of material. Therefore, in order to protect your classroom or business from a potential threat, you must design and build a bullet-resistant system that is tailored to your space and needs.
This system not only includes ballistic glass clad laminates, but also steel walls and doors, as well as the various lock systems and other precautionary measures that differentiate a fully bullet-resistant system from a simple bullet-resistant window and door.
As shootings have been on a rapid incline over the past 20 years, safety and protection has become a major concern in commercial buildings other than financial institutions. With the right system, you can put your mind at ease knowing that you have protection if an event were to ever occur.
Our Bullet-Resistant System & Installation Process
Ben’s General Contracting has installed bullet-resistant doors and windows for various businesses over the past 10 years. While we originally started installing our systems in check cashing institutions, there have recently been a spike in requests from those businesses outside of the financial services sector.
In the beginning stages of the project, we figure out the security needs of the owner and their space. Next, we work with a team of specialists that help design the most effective system possible, both cost-wise and functionality-wise. Once the design is complete, we install your system in accordance with the rest of the scope of work. In order to assure that the system is both safe and appealing to the eye, we use an extremely durable and light-weight transparent armor called Glass-Clad Polycarbonate (GCP). This material combines the hard surface of glass with the toughness of polycarbonate to resist scratches and fading while simultaneously protecting you from high-powered firearms with little to no spalling.
GCP meets both the National Institute of Justice’s and the Underwriters Laboratory’s protection level standards for bullet-resistant applications.
Aesthetics
Often times, we find that clients are reluctant to install a bullet-resistant system out of the fear that they will have to compromise the building’s aesthetics for safety. While our bullet-resistant glass systems are comprised of heavy-duty materials, we are able to design and install your system in a way that preserves the look of your current space.
We have won numerous COTY and FiSCA awards over the years that recognize the superior appearance of both interior and exterior work. Whether it is storefront, a teller wall or even a classroom, we can work with the designer to make virtually any space safe without visitors being able to tell the difference. This concealed protection not only makes the space more appealing to the eye, but also enhances the safety factor, as potential attackers cannot locate lock systems and points of entry.
